The A-bike the latest invention by one of the best inventor/entrepreneur in the world, Sir Clive Sinclair.
Beyond this the man needs little introduction, you know he was responsible for the modern day pocket calculator, many of us remember playing the latest hi tech games on the ZX spectrum, and the Sinclair C5 was a legend in it's own short product lifetime.

It would be easy to be critical of the A-bike before giving it a chance such is the reputation of the C5, but this would be unfair. Where the C5 fell down in terms of personal transport the A-bike succeeds, it's intention is to allow you to travel faster and more efficiently by allowing you to jump on and pedal over short distance, and when the need arises to integrate with public transport it allows you to do so effortlessly.
Now we know that this is the basic principle of any folding bike, but the key thing with the A-bike is that it is considerably lighter and smaller then many other folding bikes on the market making it a lot easier to use, in the words of Sir Clive;

the idea is that if you had a bicycle which is seriously lighter and more compact than anything existing at the moment, it will change the way in which people see bikes.

Now we have to be honest, it's not the first bike I would choose for an around the world tour and if you live in a very hilly area then the single speed chain drive may not be that versatile, but that would be missing the point of what this bike is intended for
The A-bike is aimed at the person who wants something which enables them to get to their destination quicker.
It's not about high performance, it's simply a tool that provides a faster option then walking, whether that is the 15 minutes spent walking between tube stations or 10 minute's too and back from the local shop, if you can lessen the time spent traveling then you liberate more time in the day to do the things you want to do, like playing on your Spectrum.
